Field trials of genetically modified rice plant encouraging
Trials of genetically modified rice plants have been conducted by Madurai Kamraj University. The tests have revealed that transgenic plants have developed resistance for 'Sheath Blight' disease, common in paddy crop in southern India.
Corn Plantings Reach 92.9 Million Acres
As per USDA acreage report, corn was planted on 92.9 million acres in 2007, of which 73% had Biotech seed varieties. This was a growth of 12% from 2006. Plantings of biotech soybean and cotton saw an increase of 91% and 87% respectively compared to last year.
