Bt is the breakthrough technology
India needs a positive step forward as the production of food grains and oilseeds has been declining or then remained the same. Oilseed harvest was 24 million tonne less, pulses was 15 mt less while wheat remained at 17 mt and rice at 85-90 mt. Mayee, chairman of the Agricultural Science Recruitment Board, New Delhi said that biotechnology can help in bringing about a second green revolution in India. With Bt, which is just a part of biotechnology, cotton output in 2002 increased from 14,000,000 bales to 27,000,000 bales at present. Media can throw light on this technology and inform about the advantages. More than 3800,000 hectares under cotton shows that biotechnology has been accepted.
